Police Investigating Fatal Shooting After Vehicle Crashes Near Portland ICE Facility

PORTLAND, Ore. — A homicide investigation is underway in South Portland after a man was fatally shot before his vehicle crashed into a building directly across the street from Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to reports of a shooting and a vehicle crash in the area. When first responders arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had collided with a building located across from the federal immigration facility.

Police said the driver, an adult male, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds before the crash. Officers immediately removed the victim from the vehicle and began administering life-saving measures while awaiting medical personnel.

Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the victim was shot several times before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the building. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and remains outstanding. Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are searching for the individual responsible.

The area surrounding the crime scene was secured for several hours as homicide detectives and forensic investigators collected evidence and documented the scene. Police have not indicated whether the shooting was targeted or whether there is any ongoing threat to the public.

Officials are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has surveillance or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit. Any information, no matter how small, could prove critical to the investigation.

The investigation remains in its early stages, and authorities say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
