Multiple People Injured After Shooting at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Large Police Response Underway

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — A major law enforcement response was underway Monday night following reports of a shooting at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that left multiple people injured and sent visitors scrambling for safety.

According to preliminary reports, possible shots were fired near Neptune Kingdom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk shortly after 9:00 p.m. Witnesses said a series of gunshots rang out, with one initial shot followed by approximately three additional gunshots around 9:01 p.m.

The sound of gunfire sparked panic throughout the popular entertainment area as visitors fled the scene and sought shelter. Several people were seen taking cover while emergency dispatchers directed numerous police units to the location.

Witnesses reported that at least one individual was seen continuing eastbound along the railroad tracks after the shooting, with bystanders pointing officers in that direction as the search for a possible suspect unfolded.

Within minutes of the gunfire, police vehicles with lights and sirens flooded the area. Witnesses said emergency responders continued arriving for approximately 10 to 20 minutes, concentrating their response near the Coconut Grove building inside the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Early reports indicate that multiple people were injured in the shooting. The severity of the victims’ injuries and the exact number of those hurt have not yet been officially confirmed.
